HOW TO MARRY A MILLIONAIRE (1953)

Three friends, all models in New York City - Schatze (Lauren Bacall), Pola (Marilyn Monroe), and Loco (Betty Grable) - snag a fantastic furnished apartment in the city that they really can't afford, and begin using it as a base of operations in a campaign, led by Schatze, for all three to meet and marry millionaires so none need ever to struggle to pay the bills again. Schatze (a radiant Bacall), a divorcee wounded by love, has gotten smart the second time around and soon sets her sights on a rich older Texan, J.D. (William Powell), while the ditzy Pola (a luminous Monroe) and bubbly Loco (Grable at her funniest) pan for gold in the dating pool with unexpected results.  Sophisticated, funny, and still relevant today (also listen for Bacall's reference to Bogart in the film - one of THE best lines ever uttered on screen), How to Marry a Millionaire could have been about three gold-diggers out to scam wealthy men ... but instead tells the story of three beautiful women you grow to care and root for, in their searches for love.
